Appleが楽曲に新価格！Complete MyAlbum

iTMSで過去に楽曲を購入したとしても、アルバムを購入する際には買いなおしが常でしたが、Complete MyAlbumで改定されるようです。

CUPERTINO, California—March 29, 2007—Apple® today announced Complete My Album®, a groundbreaking new iTunes service that allows customers to turn their individual tracks into a complete album at a reduced price by giving them a full 99 cent credit for every track they have previously purchased from that album.

“Music fans can now round out their music collections by upgrading their singles into complete albums with just one click, and get full credit for those songs they have previously purchased from iTunes,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “Complete My Album is a wonderful new way that iTunes helps customers grow and enjoy their music collections.”

“iTunes continues to revolutionize the digital music industry by offering music fans innovative ways to explore and enjoy new music,” said Thomas Hesse, president, Global Digital Business and US Sales, Sony BMG Music Entertainment. “With Complete My Album, iTunes is giving music fans the best of both worlds—the ability to discover great new music by buying just the single and a credit toward the purchase of the complete album.”

Complete My Album offers customers up to 180 days after first purchasing individual songs from any qualifying album to purchase the rest of that album at a reduced price. When users buy any song on iTunes the corresponding album will immediately appear on their personalized Complete My Album page with the reduced price listed. For example, a user who’s already purchased three 99 cent singles and decides to buy the corresponding $9.99 album would be able to download the remaining songs to complete the album for just $7.02, without having to buy the singles again.

どうも、999セントのアルバムが存在した場合に、３曲手元に持っていると、アルバム全体は999セント－297セント＝702セントで購入が出来るというサービスのようです。期限は最初の楽曲を購入してから180日以内ということです。iTunesで楽曲を購入すると、アルバムを購入するとどうなるのか？といったページが見れるらしいです。

兼ねてよりこのあたりで噂になっていた機能が実装されたということのようです。

VistaがiPodを壊す？

VistaでiPodを利用する際にハードウェアの安全な取り外し機能を利用してiPodをはずすと、iPodが破壊されるという事象が発生していたようです。
＃対象となった人はなんとも言えない感じでしょうが・・・

Vistaの「ハードウェアの安全な取り外し」でiPodが破損する可能性を修正

マイクロソフトは27日、Windows Vista用の更新プログラム（KB933824）を公開した。「ハードウェアの安全な取り外し」機能を使ってiPodを取り外すと、iPod内のデータが破損する可能性がある問題を修正した。x64版もあわせて公開している。
この問題は、Windows Vistaにおいて、USB接続したiPodを取り外す際に、OSの「ハードウェアの安全な取り外し」機能またはエクスプローラを使った場合に発生する可能性があったという。
　このため、マイクロソフトとAppleではこれまで、Windows VistaでiPodを安全に取り外すためには、iTunesのコントロールメニューから操作する方法で行なうことを勧めていた。

ということです。とりあえず、更新プログラムを適用しましょう。WindowsVistaな方は。

Apple TVでサポートフォーマットを増やす方法

AppleTVでXviDとかのフォーマットを見る方法が紹介されていました。あと、SSHサーバとしても動作させる事が出来るようですね。中身はMacOSなのでこのあたりの事は案外苦労せずに出来そうな感じですね。

The process essentially involves the addition of the Perian plug-in into the /Library/Quicktime/ directory of the Apple TV's hard drive. Perian is a "a free, open source QuickTime component that adds native support for many popular video formats".

基本はQuickTimeと同じ方法だったと記憶していますが、方法は以下のようにすると良いらしいです。

1. Open it up (4 screws on the bottom, small Torx bit)
2. Put the 2.5" drive into a USB enclosure or whatever you want
3. Mount the HFS filesystem
4. Install Perian in /Library/Quicktime (as you normally would)
5. Install Dropbear (or enable SSH if you know how... we gave up and used Dropbear)
6. Add a startup script to disable the firewall or open up the ports you need for SSH
7. Put the drive back in and boot it, ssh login as frontrow, password frontrow (or add an ssh key for yourself)
8. Use a reference movie (use QT Pro to save a reference movie) to bootstrap your xvid file

結局は/Library/Quicktimeに必要なプラグインファイルをコピーするだけです。
SSHはDropbearというソフトをインストールして動作させているようです。
色々とハックネタが出てきそうですね。

Parallelsに興味がある方はベータ版を試すこともそうですが、アカウントを取得しておくと、こういったいい事があるかもしれません。あと、日本語版と英語版はシリアルに互換性がないと思います。そして、割引対象は英語版だけです。私は、新しくなってからParallelsインストールしていなかったので、英語版をβ版で導入した後に正規版のあくティベーションします :D

色々とMacだけじゃ不便ですから。

不便と言っても通販のデジタルカタログとgyaoくらいなんですが・・・。

iTVの出荷日

2月出荷だったiTVが3月20日出荷で決定したかな？という話。

Investor's Business Daily reports that the Apple TV will be shipping on Tuesday. This information is not particularly top-secret, as all early web-orders for the Apple TV reflect a March 20th ship date.

早期予約した人のWebのオーダー情報が3月20日出荷になっているので、きっとそうでしょ？とのことです。日本でもそうなの・・・かな。ちょっと確認とれませんでした。

iTunesでもiTVへの対応を行われましたが、QuickTimeProも追従するところがあるようです。

Export to Apple TV creates not only full DVD-quality 720 by 404 videos, but also 1280 by 720 videos. These videos are viewable in iTunes, but cannot be transferred directly via iTunes to an fifth-generation iPod.
The 1280 by 720 pixel resolution, also known as 720P, is one of several high-definition video formats supported by current televisions.

QuickTimeProはDVD品質でAppleTVにエクスポートできるだけでなく、1280x720の解像度でも可能です。このビデオをiTunesでの参照が可能ですが、第5世代のiPodで見ることは出来ません。

とのこと。
これからはAppleの腕の見せ所ですね :D

Googleの携帯電話市場参入について

Googleが携帯電話を作るのかもという話。

業界関係者やアナリストによれば、Googleは携帯電話を開発している。一方、先週、スペインでGoogle役員がそのようなプロジェクトへの投資を認めた。

という話。記事の下のほうには、AppleとGoogleのアライアンスにヒビが入るのでは？との憶測も飛んでいます。ただし、具体的なデバイス案はまだ出てないようです。PCの無い人向けにも検索機能を提供するというスタンスだと思うのですが、Googleが作るのであれば面白いものが出来そうですね。

CreativeもiPod関連事業進出

同市場に参入しているCreativeもiPodのアクセサリー関連に手を出すようです。

同社はポータブルオーディオプレーヤー「ZENシリーズ」など、iPodの競合機種となる製品をリリースしているメーカーとしても知られている。今年1月の米CESで、iPod用ワイヤレスドッキングソリューション「Xdock」を発表し、今回の製品発売でiPod周辺機器開発に本格参入することとなった。同社は今後、iPodと同時にMac用のソリューションも展開していく予定という。

市場としては一人がちということで、今後、こういった矛盾と感じるような動きも出てくるのかもしれませんね。

Appleが無線設定にRDIFを利用するかも

無線LANの設定は非常にわずらわしく、普段機器に触らない人は全く分からないということも聞いたりするのですが。

Apple Inc. may turn to RFID tags to simplify Wi-Fi networking of its next-generation Mac and consumer electronics devices, a recent patent filing has revealed.

よくある、Appleが提出する特許からの話なのですが、

The filing, titled simply "RFID network arrangement," describes a system in which a router -- such as an AirPort Extreme Base station -- would hold an RFID transceiver containing all of the network's configuration information, including authentication and encryption keys.

RFIDによるネットワーク設定なるものは、AirPort Extreme Base Stationのようなルータシステムに関して記述されています。ルータは、暗号化や認証のための情報を含む、ネットワーク設定情報を持つRFIDのトランシーバ機能を装備しています。

とのことなので、無線APにRFIDのタグを貼り付けてWEPの情報なんかを先に設定させるんでしょうね。もしくは、変更したら、RFIDにもかかれるのかも。リーダの機能をMacBookなどのクライアントPCにつければ、無線の自動設定出来上がりというわけです。Appleさん、MacBookだけじゃないですよね？iPodやiPhoneも考えてますよね？？おそらく :D。

iPodで無線のWEP情報打つのなんてナンセンスですもんね。

Apple製品のフラッシュメモリ化

色々な製品がHDDをやめてフラッシュメモリ化されていくとのことですが、

Apple Inc. plans extensive use of NAND flash memory in future Mac and iPod models, which will include a new sub-notebook and widescreen video iPod, according to one Wall Street analyst.

appleはNANDフラッシュメモリの利用を将来のMac,iPodにおいて拡張方針だ。その中には新しく開発が進められているサブノートブックや、ビデオiPodなども含まれている。

とのことです。

"This is a new subnotebook form factor that will use NAND flash as primary storage," he wrote in a note to clients on Wednesday morning. "Our sources indicate that Apple would like to introduce the product in [the second half of 2007] to further capitalize on its strong MacBook growth, but timing will be dependent on NAND vendors' ability to drive down pricing further, making it economically attractive for Apple."

2007年度の後半にはサブノートブックが出るとの話ですが、また、NANDフラッシュメモリーを扱うベンダーがどこまで値下げが可能であるかに依存するとも書かれています。

他のメーカーもフラッシュメモリーのサブノートブック、たとえば

富士通、企業向けノート型ＰＣにフラッシュメモリー採用

などが事例でありますが、記事中には通常コストより７万円から8万円高額になるとの見通しが立っています。
色々なベンダーがフラッシュメモリ市場を活性化させると価格は大きく下がっていくのかもしれません。

A report on the Internet claims that several hardware product releases could be made by Apple as soon as later this month bringing some confirmation to a recent MacScoop report.

早ければ、今月の後半にAppleがいくつかのハードウェアをリリースするかもしれない。

対象となりそうなリストも出てます。

iTunes 7.1 デビュー！！

iTunesが新しくなりました。と、いう話。

"Using iTunes 7.1, you can now enjoy your favorite iTunes movies, TV shows, music, and more from the comfort of your living room with Apple TV," Apple said in a brief set of release notes accompanying the new release.
The Cupertino-based company added that iTunes 7.1 also supports a new full screen Cover Flow and improved sorting options that let users decide how iTunes should sort favorite artists, albums, and songs.
The update is available as a 28MB download for Mac users and 36.1MB download for Windows users.

何が新しくなったって、

  • iTV対応
  • フルスクリーンカバーフロー

がメインだそうです。
あと、QuickTimeも同時に出てますが、セキュリティFixと書いてました。
私個人的な意見ですが、iTunesがアップデートされると以前購入した楽曲が聴けなくなる問題などを良く見るので少し、様子見してから導入することにします :P

第６世代iPodの出荷日について

はて、iPodの機能が更新されずに、製品サイクルから見ても遅く感じる今日この頃ですが、以下のような噂が上がってきているようです。

Users hoping for a refreshed widescreen iPod (without cellular capabilities as in the iPhone) will get their wish as early as the third calendar quarter of this year if a report from AppleInsider holds true. However, the site does note that the timing is dependent on the iPhone rollout and could be put off until early next year.

iPhoneから電話機能を取り去ったワイドスクリーンiPodを待ち望むユーザには今年の、早ければ第３四半期には願いを届けれそうだ。しかし、情報サイトによれば、iPhoneの展開によっては、２００８年の初めに延期されるかもしれない。

とのことです。同サイトでは、Flashメモリの調達などにも触れていますが、技術的には勿論iPhoneから携帯機能を抜いたデバイスを出すことは可能なんでしょうね。ただし、iPodとiPhone・・・。製品が競合しまくりですが・・・。
日本ではiPhoneのリリースの話もさっぱり入ってこないですし、先にiPod出した方がよさそうな気もしますね(個人的な感情込みですが)。
